Video: What to expect from the Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Samsung[1] will announce the next-generation Note smartphone in just a few short days. The Note line has traditionally been a phone designed for pro and business users and has continued to be successful -- despite that Note 7 battery debacle[2].

With this year's release, Samsung doesn't need to do much to improve upon last year's Note 8. While Samsung hasn't officially announced the Note 9, we know quite a bit about the upcoming phone.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9: Release date

  • Will be unveiled on Aug. 9
  • Supposed to ship by Aug. 24

Samsung will announce[4] the Note 9 on Aug. 9 during a special event in Brooklyn. The event starts at 11 am ET/8 am PT. There will be a livestream available, typically on YouTube or Samsung's website.

So, when does it ship? Well, Samsung began taking reservations for the Note 9 in its Shop Samsung Android app, with a promise of those devices shipping by Aug. 24. It looks like we can expect to see the Note 9 in our hands just a couple weeks after it ships.

After a disappointing second quarter, Samsung executives stated the Note 9 would have a "reasonable" price[6]. Last year's model was priced around $950, depending on your carrier. A reasonable price, one would think, would be lower than that.
